About Us
Maxime Johnny Patty Patawala, the founder of Lion’s Tale Studios, was born on August 14th, 1986, in Almelo the Netherlands. From a young age, Maxime was captivated by creativity and movement. Whether it was drawing and sketching, riding his BMX bike, aggressive inline skating, breakdancing, or practicing martial arts like Wushu and Taekwondo. Maxime embraced a dynamic lifestyle filled with diverse passions. Growing up in the east of Holland, he also developed a love for music when moving to Amsterdam, DJ-ing, and producing TechHouse tracks under the aliases DLXM, Deluxime and later on: Maxime Johnny. His talent in music led him to win a remix contest for Michel de Hey in 2013 and playing alongside The Martinez Brothers, De Sluwe Vos, Dennis Cruz etc. Maxime’s music can still be found on Spotify, BeatPort, Apple Music etc, and he hopes to return to producing when time allows.
Fast forward 20 years, Maxime built a successful career in Information Technology, most recently working as a freelance IT Consultant and Technical Lead, supporting finance departments with technical issues in his current position. However, around 2024, Maxime rediscovered his true purpose: drawing and designing his own garments. Embracing his creative roots, Maxime now balances two roles—by day, he is a Technical Lead; by night, a Creative Director and designer.
Heritage and Inspiration
Maxime’s multicultural heritage deeply influences his work at Lion’s Tale Studios. His paternal grandfather hailed from the Moluccan Islands (Haruku, Oma/Leparissa Leamahu), while his paternal grandmother had roots in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. His maternal grandfather was from the Moluccan Islands of Saparua/Tiouw, and his maternal grandmother came from Central Java, Indonesia. Both grandfathers served as KNIL soldiers, yet the stories of their challenging pasts were rarely spoken about. Maxime, the youngest of three siblings with two older sisters. Both of his parents who were born in the Netherlands, in Kamp Vossenbosch, Wierden. His father, a hands-on creator, often built ramps and grinding poles for Maxime's inline skating pursuits, while his mother passed down her talents for drawing, sketching, and garment-making, she crafted Maxime’s first ‘Dready Hoodie’ during his young ‘sk8erboy’ days… lol
Lion’s Tale Studios seeks to blend the old with the new, capturing the essence of his grandfathers’ traditional styles and merging them with modern, timeless pieces influenced by Moluccan and Indonesian heritage. Maxime’s approach to design is characterized by a desire to honor the past while innovating for the present, drawing inspiration from brands like Aimé Leon Dore, Drakes, Casablanca, Rhude, Casatlantic, Mason Garments, Represent and Suitsupply to name a few.
Why Lion’s Tale Studios?
The name "Lion’s Tale Studios" reflects Maxime’s personal journey and vision. A Leo by zodiac sign, the "Lion" symbolizes strength and leadership, while "Tale" represents storytelling through his unique perspective. "Studios" denotes a creative space that embraces the niche market of sprezzatura—a nonchalant elegance that’s not bound by mainstream fashion trends. At Lion’s Tale Studios, Maxime strives to push the boundaries of blending streetwear, business attire, and sportswear, creating a distinct style that captures the spirit of effortless sophistication.
